I was not the only one disturbed by those found images. Yes, I took them out of context and surrounded them with words that placed them in other contexts. But I didn't just want to say these images were pornographic; I wanted to show it.
As Marlys correctly guessed, these girls (mostly) are in throes of religious ecstasy — or fear and trembling, anguish and guilt — induced by an evangelical crusader who has posted their images as proof of what? God's love? Or his pastoral potency.
Once you know where they came from, they remain creepy. They are as bad as shots of naked kids. As bad as videos of 6-year-old beauty pageant contestants. They are pornographic because they document a power that demands children not be children.
I am not comforted to know these kids are at "church." I do not believe their burdens have truly been lifted. I do not accept that this missionary should be allowed to take something just because he brings clothes or food or words of temporary comfort.
And I do not believe his spiritual brethren should be allowed anywhere near the reins of government at any level.
