Nothing very remarkable about this apartment building in North Minneapolis. But I ride past it all the time and see some recent changes.
In front of the street-level door, yellow page directories had been piling up. Before that, I'd see tenants — or customers — shuffle in and out of a battered pinkish metal door.
The overhang above the steps had been sagging, now it's being rebuilt and rewired. A new front door has some art glass in the window. It's the same color as before, but all the paint is fresh.
I just noticed the building across the street, which faces a different direction, is the same color and has a similar front door.
This is not the only work I've seen going on in some properties on the North Side. There are still plenty of foreclosed properties and for sale signs, but there's also hammering and painting here and there.
