Last month one of my favorite blogs suddenly went dark. Readers of Jim Thill have had to get used to this, because he has occasional epiphanies about blogging that conclude with abruptly pulling the plug. After each disappearance so far, he has popped up again in a transformed but recognizable state. Still, one never knows.
I could name others...
Occasionally, a Feedblitz subscriber (they receive a daily email instead of a regular RSS feed) unsubscribes, and I receive a message. The reason cited by the two this year have said the same thing: Too many updates.
Maybe they're right.
In December I'll be starting my fifth year of this blog. Though I've changed platforms, banners and shades of emphasis, I've kept up a steady drip, which I can feel becoming more acidic as the election approaches. Meanwhile, whatever focus it had at the start now reflects a wide and restless stream of consciousness.
This is still fun, but I'm wondering if it's really relevant to anything besides my own entertainment. (I shudder at the number of personal pronouns here and the cliched blah-ging post about blogging and "what does it all mean?") Could this time be spent more productively on something that matters?
We'll see.
